Anxiety can make you feel a multitude of ways: a sense of dread, your mind racing constantly and being unable to stop, feeling overwhelmed, being unable to sit still or feeling frozen in place. You "logically" know everything is fine, but your chest hurts or you feel like you can't breathe. When anxiety arrives, it can leave you feeling completely out of control or unable to cope. If anxiety is affecting your life, it's worthwhile getting the support you need.
I'm Maria Tsoukalas, a Registered Psychologist based in Calgary, and I offer online therapy for anxiety to adults across Alberta — Calgary, Edmonton, and communities in between. Sessions happen through a secure, encrypted platform, so all you need is a private space and a stable connection.
Whether you're dealing with generalized worry, anxiety tied to a specific area of life like work or relationships, or anxiety that's tied to other issues like grief or a major transition, I can help.
Below you'll find how the process works, what to expect, and what it costs.
Avoiding situations that trigger anxiety, staying busy or distracted enough not to feel it, or pushing through until it passes are all common strategies, and they can work for a while. But when anxiety has been running in the background for months or years, those strategies tend to take up more and more energy without changing the underlying pattern.
Therapy for anxiety looks at what's maintaining it: the thoughts that fuel the worry cycle, the situations being avoided and what that avoidance costs, and the way anxiety can show up physically before it's even conscious. I draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based approaches, and approach it through a lens that takes your full history and relationships into account, not just the anxiety on its own.
Psychological services are GST exempt and tax deductible as a medical expense in Canada.
Most extended health benefit and employee assistance plans cover a portion of sessions with a Registered Psychologist. I provide an official receipt after each session for you to submit yourself — direct billing isn't available at this time.
Indigenous clients registered with the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program can access care through this program — reach out directly for details.

As a Registered Psychologist, client confidentiality means I don't publish case details and the College of Alberta Psychologists standards of practice prohibits the use of testimonials. What I can offer instead is a clear picture of my training and experience, and a free consultation so you can get a sense of how I work before committing to anything.
I blend deep insight and clear observation with practical and grounded strategies. I help people understand the "why" and how to move forward with changes that are rooted in exploration and experience. I value honesty, curiosity, authentic self-discovery, and an openness to what needs to emerge.
I'm based in Calgary and see clients online across all of Alberta — Edmonton, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Fort McMurray, and smaller communities in between. Because sessions are entirely online, geography isn't a barrier to getting support, whether you're in a major city or somewhere without a psychologist nearby.
