Online Therapy for Anxiety in Alberta

Anxiety can make you feel a multitude of ways: a sense of dread, your mind racing constantly and being unable to stop, feeling overwhelmed, being unable to sit still or feeling frozen in place. You "logically" know everything is fine, but your chest hurts or you feel like you can't breathe. When anxiety arrives, it can leave you feeling completely out of control or unable to cope. If anxiety is affecting your life, it's worthwhile getting the support you need.

If you'd rather talk it through first, I offer a free 15-minute consultation. No commitment necessary.

Why this matters

Anxiety often gets managed, not addressed.

Avoiding situations that trigger anxiety, staying busy or distracted enough not to feel it, or pushing through until it passes are all common strategies, and they can work for a while. But when anxiety has been running in the background for months or years, those strategies tend to take up more and more energy without changing the underlying pattern.

Therapy for anxiety looks at what's maintaining it: the thoughts that fuel the worry cycle, the situations being avoided and what that avoidance costs, and the way anxiety can show up physically before it's even conscious. I draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based approaches, and approach it through a lens that takes your full history and relationships into account, not just the anxiety on its own.

The process

A clear path, from our first conversation to a plan that fits you.

01
Request a free consultation
Reach out through the contact form for a free, 15-minute consultation. We'll talk about what's been going on, and you can ask questions before deciding if this is the right fit.
02
Book your first appointment
Your first session covers your history, what anxiety has been costing you day to day, and what you've already tried. We'll take a look at what is driving anxiety and come up with some clear goals for our work together.
03
Attend sessions online
All appointments happen through an encrypted platform built for healthcare providers. I have specific training for working online and see clients anywhere in Alberta. You'll need a private space and a stable connection.
04
Build a plan based on what's driving your anxiety
This might involve looking at avoidance patterns, the thoughts that fuel worry, or how anxiety shows up in your body and relationships. How often we meet is a decision we make together, usually somewhere between weekly and monthly.
05
Adjust as we go
Anxiety doesn't always improve in a straight line, and that's expected. We track what's working and adjust as things shift.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can online therapy actually help with anxiety?
Yes. The core work in anxiety therapy — examining thought patterns, working through avoidance, and building different responses — transfers well to video sessions.
What's the difference between anxiety and normal stress?
Stress is usually tied to a specific situation and eases once it resolves. Anxiety tends to persist, can show up even without a clear trigger, and can start to interfere with daily decisions and relationships.
Do you diagnose anxiety disorders?
Psychologists can diagnose anxiety disorders, but I tend to focus on what's happening for you and what will help.
Do you prescribe medication for anxiety?
No. Psychologists in Alberta don't prescribe medication. If medication is something you want to explore, that conversation happens with your physician.
How many sessions does anxiety therapy usually take?
There's no fixed number. At the end of our first session, we'll decide on how often we'll meet, typically somewhere between once a week and once a month, based on what you need.
What if my anxiety is tied to something specific, like work or a relationship?
That's common, and it's useful information. We'll look at the specific situations driving it, not just anxiety in general.
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
No referral is needed to book a consultation or start therapy.
What areas of Alberta do you serve?
All of Alberta. Sessions are online only, so I work with clients in Calgary, Edmonton, and everywhere in between.
What happens in the first session?
We'll talk through your history, what anxiety has been affecting, and what you've already tried. I'll ask you questions about all areas of your life to get a better big picture understanding and we'll create some goals for what you hope to address in therapy.
Is online therapy as private as in-person?
Yes. Sessions run through an encrypted platform built for healthcare providers, but it's also important that you are in a private space during sessions and using headphones to help protect your privacy as much as possible.
How much does it cost, and is it covered by insurance?
Sessions are $260 for 50 minutes. Most extended health and employee assistance plans cover a portion, and I provide a receipt after each session for reimbursement.
What days are you available?
I currently see clients Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
